Press release July 2010

The weather may have worsened, and school may be over, but children from Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue are having the times of their lives at Camp Kochavim in Norrice Lea.

Now in its sixth year, the fun-packed summer camp has provided two weeks of non-stop action for 230 children. With activities ranging from Disney carnivals, to pony rides, giant bouncy inflatable’s, karate, creative cookery or graffiti art, there’s something for everyone in the hugely popular summer scheme. Every day at Camp Kochavim is themed whether its Harry Potter Magical day or Wacky Water day, the children always have something to look forward to.

This year Kochavim has expanded to include Mini Kochavim a special new programme for 3 and 4 year olds with currently has 60 children enrolled and an exciting Adventure Camp for Year 6.

Sophie Hasenson, 10, is currently in her fourth year as a kochavim camper, and already treasuring her final years at the camp. “Camp Kochavim is the best camp ever and I wish it carried on during secondary school. I love the games, the arts and crafts, and when the animals come in and of course the trips. This year we went to Snozone, it was amazing! and my brother year group went to Gullivers World. The madrichim are also really nice and caring, every class always has fun activities planned.”

Dani Miller a mother of three happy campers is equally pleased. “This is my third year and my kids always decide to come back to this camp. It’s fun, safe, and very well organised.”

Tara Mann is another delighted mother who rates Camp Kochavim above all other camps she’s sent her children to in the past. “My kids have been to various summer camps over the years and this is by far the best, its so well organized, and creative”, she says. “Long may it continue!”

Camp Kochavim co-ordinator and founder, Chayli Fehler, is thrilled with how successful the camp has become. “I’m very pleased that we are able to provide a quality action packed programme for over 200 children, where we show the fun side of Judaism in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We incorporate Jewish educational content through our various activites and the children are always learning new thimgs" A special mention to our fantastic staff this year who have contributed into making it such an amazing year.”

I wanted to write and let you know how much my girls have both enjoyed this week. This is their first "Kochavim" camp, and they have both had such a wonderful time and been full of praise for the madrachim who they say are full of fun and enthusiasm.
Thank You!

Hi there, I just wanted to let you know that my daughter Milli Isaacs, came along to camp this year and totally loved it. She was a little nervous as we are not from Kerem, but we both thought it was the best camp ever!!
Huge thanks to all the leaders, who sounded amazing and for your great organisation!

Camp Kochavim is the best camp ever, every morning I wake up and think…what fun things are we going to do today…. I cant wait to come to the shul.  So far, every day was my favorite! But I loved the fire juggling and the giant clown on stilts on carnival day.

Just a note to say how UNBELIEVABLE the camp was. The Director and all her helpers ran the camp with such enthusiasm and had the days jam packed full of fun activities that there really was not a moment to spare. Trips, challah baking, a water day and live animal handling were just some of the activities that made the children's week so successful.

We want to thank everybody, who organised and helped, for all their hard work in making this camp something that we, as a Shul, can be proud of.

My brother Charlie and I have just spent the last week at Kochavim camp at Norrice Lea Shul. I had a brilliant time and I loved all the fun activities arranged by the organisers and madrichim.

My best day was when we went to Legoland and went on lots of fun rides. The best ride was Pirate Falls and we got soaking wet!

We also had a crazy hair day. There was a competition so Charlie and I sprayed hair bright red and green! It was lots of fun and we had a bouncy castle.

Charlie's best day was water fun day. We had water bombs and water pistols and we made tie dye t-shirts.

It was such a great camp and we cant wait to go next year!!
